about

The poetry was written and read by Benjamin Pierce.

lyrics

We sought to finely occlude ourselves in the latest slice of space shade lately vacanted:
we sought to lock on a rightness of our pacing by this thinnest cue
we sought our separation to be secret by its’ sense
for knowing how the day fades it’s stain;
we sought distance to dye us in rich notability,
in that rare very color of no landmarks whereby to make the crossing to us:
we sought for minced just-behindness to know what goal each shadows’ twisting sought
we did not know ‘till evening pressed fleet rejected ash for every atmospheric dye
how the vast plains that had not suited us yet stretched on
to some navel under every sphere
we did not know ‘till night equalized every lantern to locality
how each inch of path we stepped beyond abided peeling-past of our own passing shade:
each of us choosing a time to walk some patched light just a little farther
each of us choosing some place to wait for day to broaden light beneath us
we did not lose that we might twist back to our own technique of stance
to observe our whichwhy of our own shadow joining to our hardest feet.
